- What are the factors that
contributed to the success and failure of Steve Jobs as a technopreneur?
I am really excited when our teacher said that we will have a film
showing. But, I was wondering if what is the story about the movie Pirates of
the Silicon Valley. As I watched the movie I really didn’t thought that it was
about the creation of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates about innovative tools which is
truly a big help in this present time. Before I will answer the question above
let me first introduce Steve Jobs.
It’s really my honor to watch the movie Pirates
of the Silicon Valley because it’s an accolade for the two premiere world
magnates of innovation and portraying their lives. In the movie Pirates of the
Silicon Valley, Steve Jobs was one of the main characters. Anyway, who is Steve
Jobs? According to Wikipedia “Steven
Paul "Steve" Jobs (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an
American businessman, designer and inventor. He is best known as the
co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Through Apple,
he was widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer
revolution and for his influential career in the computer and consumer
electronics fields.” I really admire
Steve Jobs in his dedication to reach his goals to change the world. Imagine,
from Lisa to Apple I to MacIntosh to iPod and iPads. Steve Jobs really gave a
big contribution in our time. The movie is inspiring and enlightening us in
some way. Steve Jobs cannot achieve everything without many factors that
contributed to his success and failure as a technopreneur. Well, for me these
are the factors of his phenomenal achievement.
- Determination:
Even though there were many competitors in his time he didn’t take it as a
hindrance to his success. Hence, he took it as a challenge. He trance and
dream of fabricating a new innovation which was his vision. He is really a
good example of Rugs-to-richest because he didn’t stop his vision in a
small garage and I believe that if you have a determination to what you
are doing, no doubt, you will be successful in your chosen field.
- Good
Communication Skills: In introducing a product one of the vital
characteristics of a successful technopreneur is to be good communication
skills in which Steve Jobs really good at.
He was very charismatic and persuasive to his client that every
word that he would say is true and good in presenting and marketing their
products.
- Knowledgeable:
A good technopreneur should be conversant in every detail that he is
selling. Even though Steve Jobs didn’t finish his college degree he was
still well-informed about innovation which is a good factor to be
successful in life. If you are knowledgeable you will not be bamboozled if
one of the employees is making a spurious production.
- Leader: To
be a good technopreneur you should be a good leader not just to your
members but also to yourself. Steve Jobs was leading himself to earn
achievement and to achieve his goals in life. Like him, you should lead
yourself first in a good way before you’ll lead others.
- Ambitious:
Being ambitious is like you are very hungry to what you have achieved. You
want to have more than what you already have. This is one of the spices
that a good technopreneur should have because by being ambitious you will
explore more things that will help you become successful.
- Passionate: Every individual has a
preferred field. If you really love what you are doing you will truly do
extremely well in it. Because by loving what you are doing you will
explore more things and by exploring you will be able to learn new stuffs
that will make you successful someday.
Before Steve Job’s achieve his success, he faced
failure. By facing this he was able to strive hard and change his mistakes. He
didn’t stop believing. In the movie Pirates of the Silicon Valley, I’ve seen
some factors that contributed to Steve Job’s failure as a technopreneur:
- Selfish: Selfishness is not good. Steve
Jobs doesn’t want to share his knowledge because he thinks that if he will
share it someone will make his inventions better which is not good. He was
only concerned to satisfy his own desire even though he will hurt other
people.
- Close-minded: Steve Jobs was a
close-minded man he doesn’t want to listen to other people. If he already
decided something, no one could ever change it. He was stubborn. He thinks
that he was perfect that he don’t need anyone to give him advices. There’s
a time when his business partner and his close friend Steve Wozniak gave him some advices and suggestions that
he is taking the wrong path he didn’t listen because of his selfishness.
- Harsh: Steve Jobs was
perfectionist that he will say something even though it will hurt his
employees. He didn’t respect his employees because of his tactlessness and
rudeness which is not good.
To be a good entrepreneur you will experience ups and downs. These
factors mentioned above are the ingredients to become a successful
technopreneur like what Steve Jobs achieved. If we face downfall, we should not
stop reaching our dreams. We are just human and we commit mistakes. Let us take
it as a challenge to work hard and to believe that we can do all things as long
as we will focus and to be passionate and determined to reach it. Making
mistakes is an opportunity to take a new path to guide
us to a more victorious career. The movie Pirates of the Silicon Valley is very
informative and inspiring I recommend this movie to everyone especially to an
I.T inclined person. Two thumbs up!
2.
How do you see yourself as a technopreneur?
Nowadays,
people will do anything just to achieve their goals in life. Some of them will go to other countries just
to earn money for them to sustain their needs in their daily living. Others will
study hard so that they will use their knowledge for them to be successful and
some will build a business and make it a productive one. I enrolled myself to
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) because it is something
new and it is interesting. I also desired to learn new innovative tools, to
explore more about information technology so that I will be aware of the new
things invented by brilliant minds, to have a degree and to make my parents
proud and to be successful in life as well.
Being a technopreneur is not that easy. I
think technopreneur is the summation of technology and entrepreneur. You have
to be well inclined to that said field to be successful and to earn lots of
money. Technopreneur is like an entrepreneur, you will have lucid objectives
and apparent line of track that will make your products accurately shaped and
disseminated. However, the only difference is that technopreneur is like
delivering or persuading consumers to buy the new innovative tools or
technology that will make our lives easy and for us to learn and explore more
things exists. Well, in my case, I believe
that I have some understanding about technology because this is part of my
course and I am exposed on some high technology stuffs and I am also learning
on how the technology works but being a technopreneur? Oh well. Honestly speaking, I didn’t picture
myself to be an entrepreneur because I am not gifted with a business minded
power. I am already contented of what I have now. I know nothing is impossible
with God but if you are not really interested and if you do not have the
passion in what you are doing you will not be successful in life. Yes, you have
achieved your goals but the question is “Are you totally happy?” I don’t think
so, because you would not be totally happy if you achieve your goals without
loving in what you are doing. But nothing is constant, everything will change.
I do not know. God only knows what will be the path that I will be taking. Now,
I am still young to be a business woman. I have to experience lot of things
that will make me a better person someday and will mold my future life. I
should focus to my studies first before stepping to the other level. Maybe in
the future I will be a technopreneur. It is possible because soon I will
graduate (think positive) and by that time I am already knowledgeable about
technologies. Now, in the world of internet, you will be able to earn money
without a capital. You will just make a blog, article and earn dollars. Also, you
will just advertise establishments or products. You can also make some websites
that earns a big amount of money. By doing such things I am already an
entrepreneur. I have just realized that your sweat or saliva is worth it because
you will earn big amount of money especially by making websites. How do I see
myself as a technopreneur? Well, as what I have said earlier nothing is
impossible and maybe in the future I will as long as I love what I am doing.
The
movie “Pirates of the Silicon Valley” has taught me and proves that anyone can
be successful in their chosen field or kind of business. I personally love
basketball. I love to watch NBA (National Basketball Association) especially
PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) I am an avid fan of Petron Blaze
boosters and BMEG Llamados. Maybe in the future I will make a business about.
Perhaps, I will make a website about basketball or doing other things related
to technology that is about basketball. I also love to dress other people
especially myself. I love to invent different kinds of dresses and to combine
different clothes according to my satisfaction through my imaginative and
creative mind that I truly believe that all of us have. By doing what I love,
no doubt I will be successful in what I am doing. Oh well, I am too humble. Anyway,
I can see myself as a fervent and determined technopreneur. Furthermore, I am a kind of person that will
do my best for me to reach my goals and finish my mission in life. I can also
say that I am a helpful technopreneur because I will be able to give a job and
will decrease the number of unemployed persons in the Philippines and in the
world as well.
But
there is a big problem, if I have money and I have seen different kinds of my
favorite of foods. I will automatically buy it even though I am already full. I
am not that kind of person that will sacrifice my hunger just to save money. If
I will be a technopreneur someday I should learn how to save money because your
sweat and saliva will be wasted if you will just buy thing even if you do not
really want it which is not a good characteristic as a person. Well, this is
me. But I believe that this is for my own good.
My
friends said that the movie “Pirates of the Silicon Valley” is a boring movie.
But for me, I am very honored and happy to watch this kind of extraordinary
movie because I have learned some things about the great magnate in the field
of technology innovation Steve Jobs and Bill Gates and on how they achieved their
successful life. Not just that, I also recommend this movie to all especially
for those who are IT inclined and aspiring Steve Jobs and Bill Gates in the
whole world. Hats off to them!
3. Would you take the
same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or why not?
Yes! If
I will be given a chance I will take the same career path as what Steve Jobs
took. Nothing is impossible! And yes! All of us could take the same career but
I believe that each and every one of us has different knowledge about
everything and the question is “Do you have enough knowledge in that career?” Being knowledgeable about the line of business
that you will take is very important it is one of the vital ingredients to be
successful someday. For me, I don’t think that I have that knowledge like what
Steve Jobs have. He is very smart and I don’t think I can reach 50% of
knowledge. But I believe that in my own
little way I will be able to reach my goals in life and to be successful in the
career path that I will take.
I
believe all of us want to be like Steve Jobs because of the success that he remarkably
achieved and he is truly a phenomenal. He is one of the most successful
technopreneur in the world together with Bill Gates. It is just that Steve Jobs
life was obviously outstanding in his field. All of us have different career in life and it
is up to us if we will be successful to the field that we’ve chosen. Life is like a roller coaster ride.
Sometimes, we will experience ups and down. But in the end, there is a feeling
of relief that we were able to face all the success and downfall that we have
encountered. If you are in the lowest point of your life, don’t worry because
that is one of the spices of life that will mold you as a person to be
successful.
If I
will compare my personality to Steve Jobs, it is very different. He is very
ambitious that he wants to be more than what IBM achieved which is good and he
really achieved his goal. But being ambitious takes risks. For me I am the kind
of person who is afraid of taking risks but like Steve Jobs, I have the
determination and the passion to do the things that I love.
To run
a business about technology or to be a techopreneur is not an easy task. But to
be a successful technopreneur is something that everyone wants to achieve.
Imagine, you will be able to earn lots of money and it is something that is
extremely achieved and will give honor to you. To create and make your business
big and productive is not as easy as eating peanuts. If you are not really
rich, you will surely start from scratch. Steve Jobs starts his business in a
small garage and because of his determination he was able to make a large and
famous company named Apple Inc. together with his friends and business
partners. Steve Jobs life is truly a good example of rugs-to-riches. You should
have to be determined, knowledgeable, an effective communicator or having a
good communication skills, perfectionist and passionate in everything that you
are doing. By having those factors, no doubt, you will be successful in life
but most important ingredient or the main element is to trust yourself and
trust that with God nothing is impossible. Sometimes we should also be a good
leader and to be a good leader sometimes you have to be strict so that your
members will take their works seriously. As I was watching the movie, Steve
Jobs was very aggressive sometimes he will say some things not knowing that he
could hurt the feelings his employees. There is a time when there is someone
who wants to work in his company then he didn’t show proper etiquette as a boss
and ask questions which are not related to his work and say some hurtful words.
He is kinda over true to himself and he is very rude. As a person, there is
always a limitation in everything that we are doing. Like what doctors say “too
much sweet is not good to your health” Steve Jobs didn’t listen to his friend
and also his business partner Steve Wozniak. Steve Wozniak can’t take what Steve
Jobs was doing. So he decided to leave him. That time Steve Jobs was so
depressed because he just lost one of his friend and his business partner. But
I am happy because in the end he already accepted that he really made a mistake
and as a human it is just normal. What matters is that you accepted your
mistakes and will not do it again.
Knowing
myself, I don’t think that I can do those things to my employees. If I will be
given a chance to have a business, I want it to be simple as long as I am not
losing my profit. Maybe sometimes I can say that I am rude but I cannot do the
same way as what Steve Jobs have done. I believe that every business man aims
to surpass their opponents which are good because it is a healthy completion as
long as you are doing right. Go! I believe that to create a friendly and happy
atmosphere inside the company’s workplace is a nice feeling. You’ll have fun
while learning which is great.
Talking
about the personal life of Steve Jobs, I don’t think that I will follow him.
Because of his determination to be the best among the rest he forgot his
family. Although he achieved many achievements I think it is useless, very
useless. That time when he denied his daughter is very terrible. Every child is
blessing and you will deny it? Oh common!
To be
like Steve Jobs or taking the career path that he took doesn’t mean that I will
copy his success and obviously will never copy his success. Steve Jobs is Steve
Jobs. Although I want to take the same path as his, what matters is that how
your business contributes to the progress of the society and in what way you
are doing to achieve your goals. All of us have different story book and God
only knows everything.
