3 IDIOTS

After watching the movie "3 IDIOTS", your reflections on the 3 characters, which one would you choose?

This afternoon, I just finished watching the bollywood movie “3 idiots”. Even for the nth time of watching, I am still touched straight to the middle of my heart and I’m still amazed on how perfect this movie was. It seemed to hit a raw nerve in me. I can really say that it was portrayed amazingly with wit. Hats off! Not just that but the actors and their lines that really inspires you especially to those college students who are striving hard to finish their studies.

Before I answer the question above, let me first give an overview and my reflection about the movie. “3 idiots” is a bollywood film that was released in 2009 directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Aamir Khan. Amir khan is also part of the main casts in the movie. The three main casts of the movie were Farhan Qureshi played by R. Madhavan, Raju Rastogi played by Sharman Joshi and Ranchoddas “Rancho” Shamaldas Chancahad/Phunsuk Wangdu played by Aamir Khan. It is about the three friends, Rancho, Raju and Farhan who have been through the best and worst of their college years and were called idiots because they do things which make their professor annoyed but gave enjoyment and inspiration to their fellow schoolmates, family and friens. The movie mostly addresses the serious problems and mistakes in the academic system and difficulty of an extraordinary and effectual change in the education.

3 Idiots taught me deep lessons on some of the most vital characteristics of life:

Education
We all know that education is an essential concomitant of all human societies. It is established in every individual. Education builds a person’s mind. Some may not value it but all of us were taught about the importance of it. As what the movie said, if you are well educated, the success will find you, you don't have to find it. In the movie three idiots they portrayed how they managed to study and enjoy one of the hardest professions, Engineering, in a famous university in India. I don’t like the part when the student committed suicide because his teacher didn’t accept his project. Oh common! Committing suicide cannot solve your problems in life, though you can escape, but it can never be solved. NEVER! But we cannot blame those students who commit suicide because maybe they cannot handle the pressure because many students begin to feel demands and pressure that often leads them to despair and social isolation. Entering college is an excellent way to grow into maturity and it helps you to become successful in life. College life is very different from high school life. Most of the professors’ doesn’t care if you do your homework but he only cares if you know the material. Sometimes, attendance is not mandatory. It depends on your teacher. I believe that students who enter college are expecting to know new things and to have a new circle of friends but because of the demands and expectations they will soon find out that to be in college it comes with big challenges and struggles so that we will be able to put on the importance of education. Now that I am in college, I can say that it is very hard and as a student I find very little time to enjoy extracurricular activities even in our family gatherings and even if I always attend activities in our college or to hang out with my friends I will somehow regret not getting my assignments done that is due the following day or week but I believe that there are no shortcuts in life’s greatest achievements. All my life I have been taught by my teachers and especially my parents the skills in which I will surely use to succeed in life. I will use those things I learned to make my dreams come true by utilizing the advices that they have shared to me. So we just have to be patient in every struggle that we encounter and believe that we can do everything with God and in his time.

Friendship
Going back to the movie, 3 idiots also taught me the value of friendship between three young men who battle out their differences to make their bonds even stronger. In the movie, Rancho, Raju and Farhan were called idiots because of their behavior while they were still in college. Rancho was the lead star in the film. Anyway, in the movie Rancho considers a friend as his treasure. He is really a true friend because he would go out of his way just to help his friends and his friends’ families, even if his life is in danger. I really want him to be my friend same with Raju and Farhan. In fact, there were couples of scenes in the movie where he put his friends’ needs before his needs. The scene where he taught Farjan to pursue his real passion in wildlife photography and to help Raju to face his fear of failure really touched his friends in a very deep way and also made me cry. I learned that no matter how idiot your friends are, they still have a soft heart that will care and treasure you as a friend.

Passion
Each one of us has a different characteristics and perspectives in life. We also love to do things that we like to do. This movie really taught us how to follow our dreams by pursuing or following our passion. Sometimes, we tend to go by the latest trend of the society and ignore our true passion. We also swindle ourselves by giving in to the demands of other people around us, rather than hunting what our minds dictate.

The three idiots

·         Ranchoddas “Rancho” Shamaldas Chancahad or Phunsukh Wangdu. He is the leader of the group. Actually, he is not really Rancho he is Phunsukh Wangdu who disguised himself as Ranchoddas “Rancho” Shamaldas Chancahad in the movie. He loves innovation and invention He is always questioning things that he didn’t understand. He believes that learning is more than just the usual mode of education. I love the way he encourages his friends to look beyond the ordinary. Even though Rancho is very funny and always making some things that would make his professor angry, he surprises everyone by topping the class. I know he is not a super hero but he is truly a friend who is always with you and willing to help you whole heartedly without a reward. Although he lied to his friends, I think it made his friends realize the true meaning of friendship and Racho as well. He also believes that in order to learn we must focus and do what we really want. Do not do things because other just forced us to do it.
·         Raju Rastogi. He is studying to raise his family's luck and get them out of poverty. For me, I think Rajus life is difficult among them. He has a father who is not well, a mother who is always complaining about their situation and a sister who is still single because of lack of dowry and if she doesn’t marry, she would be a burdn to the family’s scanty budget. Like him, I will also strive hard and finish my studies so that I will help my parents and make them happy. To have a diploma or to finish your studies is a thing that can never be stolen by others and it is very a wonderful gift to give to your parents to give back all their hard works for you to finish your studies and to have a wonderful life because nowadays, to be able to get out from poverty, you have to be educated about everything and for you to be knowledgeable you have to finish your studies. There is a part in the movie when Virus threatens to rusticate Raju or to get his scholarship unless he shrieks on Rancho. But Raju cannot afford to do it to Rancho and he is truly a true friend, so he decided to attempt suicide. He jumped in the window and ends up in a coma. I love his dedication as a person, but I don’t like the scene when he committed suicide just to escape on his problem. If I am his friend I will surely get mad about it. Life is very important and only God can decide whether we will stay longer here on earth or we still have obligations and responsible to do. I admired him because he was able develop self trust, worth and was able to get a good job.
·         Farhan Quereshi. He is the only child of the family. He is a simple guy who wants to be a wildlife photographer someday but his parents especially his father wants him to be an engineer and enrolled him to the famous. Since birth he was already sealed to be an engineer by his father.  He is not really that happy to study in the university the Imperial College of Engineering because of it (of course!) and as a result his grade is very poor. His parents decided his career, which is not good. His father really did everything for Farhan. I can say that to be able to be happy in life you must be passionate in what you are doing and you surely love what you are doing. This movie really taught us how to speak our heart out. We all know that our parents are always there for us no matter what because they love us and they want what’s best for us. But letting hem create or control your life is not good to the point of forcing us to do something against your will. I am very lucky to have very supportive parents, even though sometimes they don’t like my decisions but still they are always beside me. I love my parents. Anyway, I think Farhan’s parents only want what’s best for their son. But sometimes we have to give our children the freedom. The freedom to choose what is really their passion so that they will be successful and happy in what they are doing. Although sometimes, some people will be able to succeed in the field that they don’t like but the question is, “Are you happy in what you are doing? All I can say to those incoming college students is that they should speak their voice out so that they will not be stuck on something they don’t like. I don’t like it when his father even said that being a “wildlife photographer” cannot give you a good income and it is a waste of time and effort. I love the part when Rancho pursues to tell him to fight for his dream, to fight for the thing that will make him happy and to fight for what he loves to do even if others will block you to reach your dreams. So he finally decided to tell his father what he really wanted to be. As a result, he was not disappointed. His father finally willing to support Raju all the way in his desired carrier and he became a good and successful wildlife photographer. Thanks to Rancho.

In my case, I am very lucky and proud to have friends like the three idiots mentioned above because no matter how idiot you are they will still accept your flaws and imperfections. I love it when my friends and I decided to do things even though it not good or silly, we still have each other through thick and thin. I can say that my friends are very understanding and I can feel that they love and treasure me as a friend and I can also assure them that I feel the same way. Like the three idiots, I hope that I will be able to finish my studies. That no matter how many storms will come I can still get my diploma with pride and honor. This movie really inspires me to do well in my studies and to be happier and treasure my friends. I have some friends that I didn’t see for a long time but still I treasure them and they have still a place in my heart no matter what.

The three idiots (Raju Rastogi, Farhan Quereshi and Ranchoddas “Rancho” Shamaldas Chancahad or Phunsukh Wangdu) have different characteristics but the three of them still understand, love, accept and enjoy each other’s company. They were really true friends because true friends are those who are not afraid to put themselves on the line for you. I admire them because you can trust your secrets to them. They also believe in your dreams that you can do or reach it no matter how silly it may seem. If you are down, they are always there to wipe away your tears. And most of all, they love you despite your imperfections.

If I will choose one, I think I will choose Rancho, because he is very dedicated and passionate to what he is doing and among the three his is the one who leads the group. I love the part when he was giving a birth. He was really in full control of the situation. As a good leader, he was able to give direction and everyone followed. He is a good and effective leader who truly loves his friends and also his schoolmates carrying his principles and great ideas of learning. Although sometimes it is not the right way but as a person it is good to enjoy and to have fun while you are learning. He succeeded in influencing and motivating his two friends to follow their dreams, which was good and hats off to Rancho for that. I love his commitment to his friends and to the one he loves even though it places him to danger he will still do everything for his friends because he love them. Hence, many cynic people around him called him an 'Idiot'. But the devious comments did not ruin him down. He was proud to be called as an Idiot. Although he is naughty he still manages to be a good student and to have good grades which I admire him the most. We should be brave enough in facing any struggles or difficulties in life. Let’s think of our problems in a positive way, so that we will be able to look for the solution easily. It was Ranchoddas “Rancho” Shamaldas Chancahad or Phunsukh Wangdu who made me aware that it is not dim-witted to wander away from the flock if that's where my happiness set. Rancho made me braver to stand up to my passions. Because of the movie and because of him (Rancho) they opened my eyes and I realized all the mistakes I have done and I really tried to learn and reflect from every mistakes I’ve done. I really want to be like him, that he can still succeed in both ways (time management). He is truly gifted with Einstein’s brain. I hope he will share it to me. And if this makes me an 'Idiot' like him, I don't mind being called one. I don’t care. As long as I am not doing rude things against them, it’s okay. Anyway, I know myself better.

At first, I am really not interested to watch this movie maybe because the title is not that catchy and I think it was just a typical comedy movie but I was wrong, super duper wrong. When I started watching those funny scenes and their groovy dance moves, I became interested that it caught my attention and I started to focus on watching till the end. I really recommend this movie to everyone because it has a great message to the audience and there are so many lessons to be learned in the film especially to those college students who find it hard to be in college and think that they will fail. The movie “3 idiots” is certainly one of the best movies I have seen. As what I am always saying from the beginning of this essay, “3 idiots” has full of learning and funny scenes. It touches our heart and tells us that we should not lose hope. We should not give up in everything that we are doing because all the problems and all the troubles that we encountered are blessings that will surely mold us as individual. So don’t lose hope. Like what the bible says that we can do all things through God who strengthen us. Let us just take every problem as a challenge and always remember that in every storm there is always a rainbow. Again, all of us are facing different problems in life not just you. Let us serve it as a motivation for us to aim high and to achieve our goals in life.

“3 idiots” teaches me to be more optimistic and how to completely steer life. Also, it teaches me how to value our family and friends. This movie opens up my eyes into different veneers of life that we often disregard. Like what the movie said, we don’t have to chase success but rather let us pursue excellence and success itself will follow. Also, this movie completely mocks our education system and paints a correct picture of what education really is. According to Rancho, if you love something, chances are that you will do the best in it without doubt. Sometimes, other people will block us in doing what we are doing. We just have to pursue our dreams and fight for what we love and it also entails great amount of courage to stand up to your own decisions and confidence. Each one of us will surely experience things that we don’t like or we didn’t plan to happen. So if problem strikes, just put your hand to your heart and say “ALL IS WELL!”
